View Full Version : ASG29 Panel (small) layout ideas for ClearNav II installation

If anyone has any recent CAD or sketches of CNII instrument layouts in an ASG29 with the smaller panel size, I would be appreciative. Examples of completed installs are very welcomed as well.

If I do this, I have not decided if I would do both varios (nav diplay or needle) or just one.

I understand that this panel is a VERY tight fit for the ClearNav display in panel and will require all 57mm instruments to work.

Any insight, experinece or ideas are welcomed.

I may have a metric airspeed (ASG29, winter, 57mm), metric vario (winter, 80mm with 29 speed ring) and a FLARMVIEW for sale shortly. Let me know if you are interested.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

I have the "original" rectangular Butterfly display. For those who have used both the Butterfly and the FlarmView display, what benefit might there be to changing displays? One thing that the Butterfly does that the FlarmView appears to not do is allow one to set or clear Stealth mode from the display controls. May be handy to have that ability based on other threads on the Stealth topic lately.

Thanks to all for the numerous emails and photos and info!

Still not sure about ClearNav or LX or keeping my SN10.

I have the small panel with a LX9000, would my layout be any help for you? It was also very tight and only possible by modifying the Winter instruments anbit.

Hey sean,

I'll send you a photo, a big airspeed and altimeter can be used, but you have to get creative. mine is a 20 naturally, and i can recall how much smaller a 29 panel is, but this general concept in the photo i'll send is worth a look. i never had a problem with the location of the altimeter, especially since the alt. is visible on the clearnav.

You could put the clearnav on a pedestal, see photo showing this on Wings & Wheels (sold, page 7.......Discus 2B). Gets it closer, easier to read and saves buying small ASI, alt, vario, etc.
An option to consider,
JJ

There are some different instruments available on various AS model panel layouts on their website. The ASG32 has Butterfly vario and Trig TXP (but round install, you need to crop).
None of them have ClearNav display or Vario displays. I'm laying out a normal sized ASG29 panel with no 80mm instruments, pretty easy. The ASW28 (Small ASG29 panel) is tricky.
Sean, I might be installing my CN2 in the new panel without the tunnel mount, so that mount (with CN2 speaker mounted in the top of the tunnel) would be available. In a small panel you gain precious space if you mount shallow instruments next to the tunnel.
As far as I'm concerned, nothing goes on top of a glare shield and nothing hangs off the panel like some afterthought. Did violate that with one of Craggy's #500107 FLARM antennas.
